ASBESTOS REMOVAL

What is asbestos?

Asbestos is the name given to a group of minerals that occur naturally in the environment as bundles of fibers. These fibers are resistant to heat, fire, and chemicals and do not conduct electricity. For these reasons, asbestos has been widely used in a variety of building products such as:

✔ HVAC/attic insulation
✔ Pipe coverings
✔ Acoustic spray or "popcorn" ceilings

✔ Ceiling tiles
✔ Floor tiles and sheet flooring
✔ Mastics and adhesives

✔ Wallboard joint compound
✔ Roofing and siding shingles

Is asbestos harmful to my health?

Left intact, asbestos-containing materials do not pose a health risk. Harmful exposure occurs when a material is disturbed in some way to release asbestos fibers into the air which can then be inhaled. Such disturbances may occur during:

✔ Demolition work
✔ The building or home maintenance and renovation
✔ After a catastrophe such as a fire or a flood
Through increased airborne exposure, asbestos fibers that are breathed in can accumulate and cause scarring and inflammation, which can affect breathing and lead to serious health problems including, but not limited to:

✔ Lung cancer
✔ Mesothelioma
✔ Asbestosis
